McLaren Vale tours

McLaren Vale tours – We love to hear you say…”how good was that!”

John Reynell and Thomas Hardy planted grapes in this near to Adelaide region 1838 and the area boasts a number of 100 year old vineyards. The present-day Seaview and Hardy wineries were in operation as early as 1850. Today there are more than 85 cellar doors in McLaren Vale, the majority are small family-run operations.

The McLaren vale, like the Barossa Valley, has terroir which includes an abundance of ironstone (laterite) which tends to retard plant vigour,  often resulting in a higher level concentration of flavours in the small berries. It is also blessed with afternoon sea breezes, giving it a Mediterranean climate.

The major varieties grown are Shiraz and Grenache, with Mataro, Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Pinot out in the hills to the east. There is  a also wide variety of farm fresh produce grown in the region and a great farmers market in Willunga. McLaren Vale wine
